Sudden announcement! Sanctions imposed on 11 Chinese companies

2025-10-29

On October 15, the British Foreign Office announced a new round of sanctions against Russia, including 11 Chinese companies. This decision quickly drew a response from China. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated on October 27 that the UK's actions constituted unilateral sanctions without any basis in international law or UN authorization, negatively impacting Sino-British economic and trade relations. China urged the UK to immediately correct its erroneous actions, prioritizing the overall interests of Sino-British economic and trade cooperation. "China will resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises."

The UK Foreign Office's announcement on October 15 of a new round of sanctions against Russia, including the inclusion of 11 Chinese companies on the sanctions list, represents a significant number of Chinese companies targeted in recent British sanctions. The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce officially responded on October 27, clearly stating that "China firmly opposes the UK's listing of 11 Chinese companies under the pretext of Russia," emphasizing that on the Ukraine crisis, China has consistently and strictly controlled the export of dual-use items in accordance with laws and regulations. Normal exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Russian enterprises should not be interfered with or affected. China pointed out that the UK's move "disregards the good development momentum of China-UK economic and trade relations" and may have a negative impact on bilateral economic and trade relations.
